LESBOS. Mytilene. Circa 521-478 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 11 mm, 2.54 g, 7 h). Facing gorgoneion with protruding tongue. Rev. Incuse head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; behind neck, small incuse square. Bodenstedt 19.1.11 and pl. 15, I and 52, c/γ (this coin). HGC 6, 944. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG von Aulock 1691. Nicely toned and with a particularly vigorous gorgoneion. Tiny marks and the obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, about extremely fine.
